Claire Mimnagh

SAGE & THYME and SATFAC trainer

Claire is a SAGE & THYME and SATFAC trainer with a Master’s in Psychology. Over the past decade, she has taught communication skills to first and second-year medical students at The University of Manchester.  She also facilitated significant illness sessions, allowing second-year students to hear patients share their experiences with chronic illness, and served as an examiner for end-of-year communication OSCE exams.

Prior to this, Claire secured two research grants to study the impact of mindfulness meditation on burnout in medical students at The University of Manchester, finding it significantly reduced burnout and improved both self-efficacy and wellbeing.  This research earned a bronze award at the 2016 European Society for Person-Centered Care conference.

Claire also conducted research with Community-Based Medical Education at Manchester, evaluating the impact of a one-day diversity workshop for third-year medical students.  She assessed its effectiveness through subsequent mock OSCE scores on a diversity-focused station two years later.  She later examined how well medical education prepares students for their GP placements in years three to five of their medical degree.
